How to use glass glue？

The complete usage method of glass adhesive can be divided into three core stages: preparation, construction, and curing. Even beginners can easily create a smooth and beautiful adhesive line while ensuring the sealing and bonding effect.

Pre-construction preparation

Tool materials: Prepare a glass glue gun, art knife, decorative paper, scraper, detergent/soap water, and select the corresponding type of glass glue according to the scene.

Old glue cleaning: Use a utility knife and scraper to thoroughly remove old glue and debris from the gaps, ensuring that there is no residue on the base surface.

Surface treatment: Use alcohol or neutral cleaner to wipe off dust, oil stains, and water stains on the construction surface, completely dry it, and ensure that the bonding surface is dry and clean.

Positioning of decorative paper: Stick decorative paper on both sides of the gap, leaving a distance of 5-6 millimeters from the center line of the adhesive seam. This will result in straight and neat adhesive lines in the future.

Glue nozzle treatment: First, screw on the glue nozzle and diagonally cut the front end of the nozzle at a 45 degree angle. The size of the cut should match the width of the gap. For beginners, it is recommended to first make a small cut to control the amount of glue produced.

Loading glue into the gun: Press the glue gun paddle, pull the pull rod to the bottom, install the rubber hose into the gun body, and then tighten the pull rod to complete the assembly.

Standardize the gluing operation

Glue application posture: The glue gun is at a 45 degree angle to the construction surface, and the glue nozzle is inserted into the gap. It moves steadily and uniformly along the gap without stopping or breaking the glue throughout the process.

Trimming and smoothing: After finishing the glue, use a scraper to smooth the glue surface along the direction of the textured paper, or gently wipe it with your fingers dipped in detergent water to make the glue surface more delicate and smooth.

Tear off the masking paper: After finishing, tear off the masking paper diagonally from the inside out to obtain a neat edge adhesive line.

Residual glue cleaning: Unsettled overflow glue can be wiped off directly with a dry cloth, do not wash with water, to avoid getting more sticky with wiping.

⏳ Curing and subsequent attention

Curing time: The glass adhesive surface dries for about 24 hours, and complete curing takes 3-7 days. During the curing period, do not touch the adhesive surface to avoid water and dust.

Environmental requirements: Keep the space ventilated throughout the construction and curing process. During the curing of acidic adhesive, irritating gases such as acetic acid will be released to avoid prolonged inhalation in a sealed environment.

Scene selection of glue: Choose anti mold neutral glue for damp areas in kitchens and bathrooms, and use acidic glue for bonding aluminum alloy doors and windows. Note that acidic glue cannot be directly used on cement or marble substrates.

Cleaning after curing: The fully cured glass adhesive should be scraped off with a scraper or dissolved and cleaned with acetone solvent.
